Barnett alleges manipulation across mining taxesThe Premier Colin Barnett has accused the Federal Government of manipulating Treasury figures to match its political agenda.

The Federal Government has released Treasury advice that shows the mining sector pays an average tax rate of 17 per cent, well below the industry average.

The figure does not embody royalty payments which the mining companies pay the states.

The Government released the earnest persuasion to counter mining industry claims that it already pays in dissoluteness of 40 per cent tax overall.

The Premier says the Federal Government’s configuration of 17 per cent is wrong.

But, Mr Barnett has stopped curt of saying the Treasury figures are lies and he is instead accusing the Commonwealth Government of politicising the debate.

“Treasury is subsistence used politically and it’s inappropriate, absolutely inappropriate,” he said.

Mr Barnett’s comments approach at the same time as a letter from the chairman of Fortescue Metals Group, Herb Elliot, to its 55,000 shareholders.

Mr Elliot says the guidance’s mining super tax proposal is similar to a socialist funding and put a ~ upon device which is bad for Australians.

Under the proposal, resource companies would subsist charged 40 per cent on profits above a six per cent profits beginning.
