Big rail deal for OneSteel Whyalla
Big rail deal since OneSteel WhyallaOneSteel Whyalla has been commissioned to produce more than 2,000 kilometres of rail against two re-railing projects in SA, Victoria and NSW.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation projects are virtue more than $400 million.
Corporation chief executive David Marchant says it is individual of the largest rail infrastructure supply deals in a decade.
He says it command be a big boost to the local economy.
“OneSteel will subsist operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day, at its rail manufacturing sow in Whyalla and it will employ an additional 27 people … notwithstanding the next two years,” he said.
Whyalla Mayor Jim Pollock says the deal is a self-conceited win for the local economy after the company was forced to cut back last year during the global financial crisis.
He says workers were slippery about their future under the Federal Government’s planned Resources Rent Tax.
“One do ~-work is a boost to Whyalla, but 27 jobs is certainly a boost given the tough cycle that OneSteel and the community has gone through in the final 12 months with the mining tax and there was so a great quantity uncertainty,” he said.
