The 2011 Master’s Leaderboard reports that the man once said to be “better than Tiger Woods,” in 2009 is in the lead as of this writing. Rory Mcilroy, who hails from Hollywood, Ireland, finished at 7-under par, where Woods, who’s feeling reportedly upbeat, is six-shots back at 1-under par.

If Woods can come back and make a run, and win The 2011 Masters, he would score his fifth green jacket, first since 2005, and first major championship win since 2008.

But right now, Woods “would rather be where Rory (McIlroy) is at,” he told reporters today. “But, hey, it’s a long way to go. we have a long grind ahead of us. The temperature’s supposed to warm up, and I’m sure they will start making the pins a little more difficult as the week goes on.”

The good news is Woods feels comfortable with his game, but then so does 21-year-old Mcilroy. He put up a no-bogey 65 today, and no one matched it for a time until Alvaro Quiros finished for the day at 7-under par.

Moviegoers watched her transition into adulthood. she was planning her wedding in Father of the Bride. she was experiencing some serious marital problems alongside Paul Newman in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. she worked with then-husband Eddie Fisher in her Oscar-winning performance in Butterfield 8. she famously co-starred with her paramour/husband/ex-husband/soulmate/husband again Richard Burton in a series of films, some of them great (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), some of them glossy (Cleopatra), and some of them Boom!. Here’s Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, trying desperately to make drunk Paul Newman attracted to her. Considering that Taylor positively exudes sensuality, the only possible conclusion that we can draw is that Drunk Paul Newman has gone completely insane.

Cleopatra is justifiably regarded as a slow-motion Hollywood train wreck, but you can’t deny Taylor’s magnetism in the lead role. Suffice it to say, Rex Harrison’s Julius Caesar finds her more attractive than Drunk Paul Newman.

Syracuse led Marquette by as many 10 points midway through the first half. On the heels of a 32-point blowout of George Mason by Ohio State, it looked like Cleveland might be the only NCAA tournament site without a controversial or thrilling ending.

Then the Golden Eagles made a charge.

Despite shooting just 37.5 percent to Syracuse’s 52 percent, Marquette led 34-31 at halftime in Quicken Loans Arena.

The 11th-seeded Golden Eagles forced third-seeded Syracuse into 10 turnovers. Marquette made 7 of 7 free throws while the Orange made just one attempt on one try from the free throw line.

Darius Johnson-Odom led the Marquette with 12 points.

Marquette also outrebounded Syracuse 18-13, pulling down nine offensive boards. Jae Crowder had five rebounds, with three on the offensive glass.

Syracuse was in a rare four-game losing slump back in January and Marquette took advantage.

The Orange have vowed they won’t resemble the team that lost in Milwaukee 76-70 in January when the big East teams meet for the second time this season. this time the stakes are higher with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament to play No. 2 seed North Carolina.

Third-seeded Syracuse has ramped up its defense since that meeting and has won nine of its last 12 games, including a tournament victory against Indiana State.

No. 11 Marquette, which lost several games this season by one or two possessions, has already exceeded expectations in the tournament by knocking off sixth-seeded Xavier on Friday night.

The contributions that small businesses make go far beyond job creation; they provide the backbone to many community efforts and are integral to our livable neighborhoods. But many small businesses definitely feel excluded from the economic agenda for Memphis and Shelby County– and they don’t understand why, given that they together are the largest employer in the area.

Because of this feeling of being on an island, the small-business community doesn’t believe it has a voice or representation.

There is a disconnect between many suburban businesses and the many efforts coming out of city and county government. Minority businesses want more attention paid to their communities. Entrepreneurs feel not enough effort is placed on new ideas and taking risks.

The bottom line is the small- business community wants to be included in shaping the economic agenda, and yearns to have a voice. This is why you have suburban chambers, black business groups and entrepreneurship incubators to help navigate the sometimes troubled waters businesses face.

These organizations, however, need to do a better job of working with each other.

I remember talking to a small-business owner in North Memphis a couple of years back, and we were discussing some government resources that were available for him. I will never forget his attitude: it was one of zero trust and sticking to his same old way of doing things, even though that meant his business would struggle along.

The funny thing is that there are resources available to small business; maybe not for everyone at this very moment, but resources do become available periodically — including sources of funding and workforce development assistance.

Sure, we are not where we want to be as far as the availability of resources, but we do have assets that sometimes are underutilized from the Small Business Administration, Renaissance Center, and Greater Memphis Chamber to the Small Business Resource Center at the Main Library, SCORE, and LaunchMemphis.

How do we do a better job of communicating not only the resources that are available, but also the different needs per each segment of the business community? Who can go into the suburban community, minority business communities and the entrepreneurship community and truly relate and connect with their needs, and then bring these needs as priorities back to government so they understand the power that lies in these communities?

You see many times Memphis suffers from what is called the Professionalism Curse, in which many leaders mistakenly believe they know what’s best for our community. Because of this curse, we many times fund the same efforts and contract with the same businesses over and over.

We must create a mechanism that prevents this entrenchment, and serves as a conduit for all small businesses to be heard. We need a comprehensive connector of resources, and we need to begin to break down silos that separate the business community.

This is no easy task, because the many walls that separate our business community do not just crumble overnight. There has to be a process of trust-building and education, and the time to start is now.

You can rearrange them into a circle or another shape.

I am putting all my kids on my back (name, date of birth and a hand print) and at the top is our last name. with all the signs a circle is a good idea, a tree, dream catcher or something that you and your family share.

David Broder, the longtime Washington Post reporter and columnist, died at age 81 today. the Washington Post, where he worked since 1965, has an obituary that recounts the high points of his long career. He grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1947, at 18. He got a master’s degree there and served in the Army, then started his journalist career at that most sober and fact-driven organ, Congressional Quarterly. from 1960 to 1965 he worked at the Washington Star, then went to work at the Washington bureau of the new York Times. Frustrated by the paper’s limits on his coverage and attracted by the Washington Post’s then-new executive editor Ben Bradlee, he joined the Post 18 months later, where he remained for more than 50 years. Broder covered his first national convention in 1956 and remained an active reporter and columnist up through 2004, which means that he covered one-third of the 84 Democratic and Republican national conventions in history. Broder won the Pulitzer Prize for his reporting in 1973, and for most of his long career at the Post he was regarded, correctly, I think, as the nation’s leading political reporter. He had an uncanny ability to recognize the turning points in political campaigns and to identify the presidential candidates who were making breakthroughs in the caucuses and primaries. And he was capable of churning out thousands of words on deadline, revising constantly to meet deadlines of different editions in the evening sessions of national conventions.

Despite all this, he was a man of great modesty. at the end of every year he wrote a column chronicling his mistakes and botched predictions in the previous year’s columns. He was never cowed by celebrities and regularly interviewed presidents and would-be presidents, but he also took pride in interviewing voters on street corners or at their front doors. He was always interested in newcomers in politics, and wrote one of his books on the members of the baby boom generation, Changing of the Guard (1981). my first contact with him was in 1974 when he, already at the top of his profession, spent an hour giving me advice on how to get the next edition of the Almanac of American Politics published. when I was on the editorial page staff at the Post (1982-1989) he was always courteous when I, having finished work on my editorial, walked into the newsroom and bothered him when he was working on deadline. a couple of years ago he asked me to speak to one of his classes at the University of Maryland.

David Broder had a firm belief in the goodness of this nation and of representative government and the worthiness of our political system. He was less sympathetic with those who bypassed the political process through street demonstrations or by pushing ballot propositions. his own political sympathies were in line with those of the liberal Republicans who were so important a part of the political system in the early years of his career—his first book, coauthored with Stephen Hess—was the Republican Establishment (1967), and he was punctilious in providing Republicans as well as Democrats with fair coverage. I think it’s fair to say that his integrity and imperviousness to fashion, as well as his careful political instincts, provided a salutary discipline to the American political process for half a century.

“It’s been the whole year,” Marquette coach Terri Mitchell said. “We giveourselves a chance and we trust one and another. I have to get my hairhighlighted a little more this year because of all the gray they cause.”

The Golden Eagles (23-7) will face fourth-seeded Rutgers in thequarterfinals Sunday. there was never any concern even when they trailed byseven midway through the second half.

“even if it’s a close game no one shows signs of doubt,” Fiedorowicz said.“We have great passers and penetrators and everyone steps up to the occasion.”

Trailing 44-37 midway through the second half, Marquette rallied despiteleading scorer Angel Robinson sitting on the bench with four fouls.

Jasmine Collins hit back-to-back layups to make it a three-point game.

Marquette was down 53-49 after Taneisha Harrison’s 3-pointer with 8:02 left.the Golden Eagles scored the next nine points to take a 58-53 advantage onMcMorris’ pullup in the lane with 4:16 left.

Pitt was able to get within two twice, but Collins’ layup with 15.7 secondsleft sealed the win.

Harrison scored 27 points while Shayla Scott had 11 points and 13 reboundsto lead Pitt (14-17).

It’s been a stellar season for the Golden Eagles. they beat two top-10opponents (West Virginia and DePaul) in the same season for the first time inschool history. Marquette is trying to earn its first NCAA tournament berthsince 2007, the last time the Golden Eagles had 20 wins in a season.

This was the second tight meeting between the teams this year. Marquetteedged Pitt in overtime on Jan. 29. McMorris banked in a 3-pointer at the end ofregulation to force the extra session.

Trailing 63-61 with 40 seconds left, Pitt threw the ball away after atimeout. instead of fouling, the Panthers let Marquette work the clock down andRobinson drove the lane before passing the ball to Collins for her uncontestedlayup.

“they made a great play and went inside to the kid for the layup and thatreally killed us,” Pitt coach Agnus Berenato said. “We did want to foul, butyou get to a certain point and then you don’t want to foul and take your chanceswith good ‘D’.”

Pitt couldn’t convert on the other end. the Panthers had lost four straightgames before beating South Florida in the opening round of the tournament.

Marquette jumped out to a 14-4 lead before Pitt finally got going.

“For 34 minutes it was a really good game,” Berenato said. “I did thinkpeople thought it would be a blow out after the first six minutes.”

The Panthers scored the next 13 points with the final eight coming fromHarrison. she hit consecutive 3-pointers and a layup to give Pitt a 17-14advantage.

She hit another 3-pointer with 1:29 left in the half that banked in to givePitt a 30-22 advantage—it’s biggest of the period. the senior guard could onlythrow up her hands and smile as she made six of her first seven shots and had 16points at the half.

The Panthers led 30-23 at the break.

No. 20 Marquette rallies to beat Pittsburgh

I’m sure you figured out how I feel about the hit based on the headline, but I’ll still present the video before completely passing judgment.

A lot of Boston Bruins fans, along with Chara’s teammates, will probably point out that Chara is not this kind of player. and by “this kind of player,” I mean the type of player that looks to intentionally injure people, like Trevor Gillies or Matt Cooke. they might be correct.

Still, there’s no excuse for this kind of hit. if Chara did what he did to Pacioretty intentionally, he’s reckless and he should be suspended. if he didn’t do it intentionally and he hurt Pacioretty on accident, he’s such a danger to his fellow players that he probably shouldn’t be allowed to check people. the latter scenario seems unlikely, since Chara is a world class defenseman. In January, Pacioretty scored an overtime winner against the Bruins which resulted in a brawl with Chara, so we can only hope that this hit wasn’t made in retaliation.

Thankfully, according to Canadiens management, Pacioretty was awake and moving his limbs when he arrived at the hospital. that shouldn’t change Chara’s suspension prospects.
