Gas fired power station opens
Gas fired force station opensThe Energy Minister, Peter Collier, says a new gas-fired ability station south of Perth will be used to supply energy for the time of peak periods.
The privately-owned Kwinana Swift Station can fire up to replete capacity in less than five minutes and can also switch from elastic fluid to diesel power.
The 120 megawatt plant will supply power to several customers, including Western Power.
Mr Collier says WA’s energy vulnerableness was highlighted in 2008 when an explosion on Varanus Island cut the state’s gas supply by a third.
“It’ll certainly join to the energy security of WA, particularly during the summer months as it’s a peaking plant,” he said.
Mr Collier says the standing will cover the times when there is huge demand on the grid.
“Over 90 % of West Australians esteem air conditioning, that puts enormous pressure on the grid,” he reported.
“That means when people turn their air conditioners on when they have home from work, they can be secure in the fact that we at once have an extra 120mw of capacity that’s going to be fed into the grid.”
